Dealing with serious rust? Rusty classic or 4×4?
Our Rewind Rust service is designed for vehicles and vehicle components that are severely rusted, offering a full restoration back to bare metal.
Whether it’s a 4×4 chassis, classic car bodyshell, axle or subframe, we remove all rust using a range of advanced techniques most suited to your case.
From media-blasting to laser treatment, chemical removal to intricate manual work, we take rust out of the equation.
After getting your component back to bare metal, we offer three options: we can return the bare-metal item as-is – we can cold-galvanise to extend it’s unpainted life, allowing you to apply a choice of finishes at your leisure – or we can cold-galvanise, prime and paint your component for hard-wearing long-term protection.
Rust may have taken over, but we can rewind the clock!

Why Choose Rust Stop’s Rewind Rust Service?
Restore Severely Rusted Vehicles
No rust is too far gone. We can completely restore bodyshells, frames, chassis, and other components—even those that seem beyond repair.
Advanced Rust Removal Techniques
We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on the condition and size of the parts, we use the best method to remove rust, including:
- Wet or dry media-blasting for bodyshells, chassis, and larger components
- Laser treatment, or manual removal for precision rust removal on smaller and more delicate areas
- Chemical rust removal for parts that need a gentler touch
Flexible Finishing Options
Once the rust is gone, you have three choices:
- We return the bare metal item to you for future treatment
- We can cold-galvanize the bare metal, leaving it ready for you to finish with your own primer and top coats
- Or, we can cold-galvanize, prime, and paint the treated areas, offering a fully finished solution with long-term protection against future rust
Long-Term Rust Protection
Whether you choose our full finish or handle elements of the rust-proofing yourself, we make sure your vehicle or component has the best possible start for protection from the elements and future rust development.
How It Works:
The process will vary depending on the job at hand, initial condition and preferred level of finish.
Step 1: We assess the level of rust and help you choose the most appropriate method for it’s removal — whether that’s wet or dry blasting, laser treatment, chemical removal, or careful manual work.
Step 2: The rust is then completely removed, leaving your vehicle shell, chassis or components with clean, bare metal.
Step 3: You decide how to finish the job: take away the item as-is, we can apply a cold-galvanized surface for you to handle finishes yourself, or we can take it all the way with galvanizing, priming, and painting.

Rewind Rust – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What exactly is the Rewind Rust service?
Our Rewind Rust service is for vehicles and components that have moderate to serious rust damage. We fully remove rust using a choice of advanced techniques such as media-blasting, laser treatment, or chemical removal. After rust is removed, we can return the item in bare-metal, we can cold-galvanize the metal or we can offer a full finish with galvanizing, priming, and painting included.
2. How do you remove rust from my vehicle?
We choose the best rust removal method based on the severity of the rust and the part of the vehicle affected. We use wet or dry media-blasting for larger components like chassis or frames, laser treatment for precision rust removal and chemical rust removal for smaller or intricate areas.
Please note that we do NOT dismantle the vehicle into it’s component forms, items to be treated must be supplied to us as bare shell, bare chassis or bare component.
3. Can rust really be fully removed?
Yes! Unlike surface treatments that either prevent rust from forming or pause existing rust, our Rewind Rust service completely removes rust, leaving bare metal behind. From there, we can protect the newly exposed metal with a short or long-term solution to stop rust from returning.
Of course there will be instances where a component has been too badly damaged and after removal of the rust, we find that the component is no longer serviceable without repair, or we find a crack or other damage that had previously been hidden by the rust. In these cases we can advise on and offer repair options, or in some cases recommend the component be scrapped.
4. What happens after the rust is removed?
Once rust is removed, you have three options:
1/ We return the component as-is, in bare metal. Do note this is likely to flash rust very quickly, often in a matter of days. 2/ We can cold-galvanise the bare metal, giving you a permanent rust-protective layer and leaving you to finish with your own top coats. 3/ We can provide a full service by cold-galvanising, priming, and painting the treated components, leaving them fully finished and protected long-term.
5. How long will the restoration last?
The Rewind Rust service can provide long-lasting protection. If you choose the full finish option (cold-galvanize, prime and paint), the treated areas will stay rust-free for many years to come. Depending on the primer, mid and top coats, with a combination of galvanic protection and high-impact and abrasion resisting top layers, finished items could remain rust free for 30+ years
6. How do I know if I need Rewind Rust instead of Pause Rust?
If your vehicle or components have extensive rust damage — like rotting chassis, bodyshell, or heavily rusted frames — then the Rewind Rust service is the best option – and it will clearly show areas in need of further repair, before allowing for a comprehensive rust-protection treatment on 100% sound metal. If rust is more surface-level, our Pause Rust service might be enough.
7. Can this service save a car that’s heavily rusted?
Yes – although this will depend heavily on the value of the car. Even severely rusted vehicle shells and components can be restored with our Rewind Rust service, but this is a premium service and so comes at a greater cost. We specialize in helping restore classic car bodyshells, off-road and chassis-based vehicles, bringing them back from the brink of rust-related disaster. The process however, can be complex and time consuming, especially where repairs are required and the customer expects a better-than-factory finish. On cars with a lower value, or cars that are maybe only a few years from the scrapyard, or for components that can simply be replaced with pattern parts at a low cost, rewind may be a service too far!
8. How long does the process take?
The time frame depends on the size of the component and the extent of the rust damage. Smaller parts or light rust removal that can be media-blasted or chemically treated can be ready within 24 hrs, while full vehicle shell or chassis restorations can take significantly longer. We’ll always provide a clear timeline after assessing your needs and the items concerned.
9. Is the treatment eco-friendly?
Re-using is usually a lower environmental impact than replacing. Not only that, but we use eco-friendly methods wherever possible. Our cold-galvanizing and rust removal processes are designed to be as safe for the environment as they are effective on your vehicle. It’s only when we get to some of the tougher two-pack paints and finishes that we start to use toxic chemicals, but even then we are responsible in their use and the finished item will be more robust and long lasting for having been protected by them.
10. Will I need to take my components to a paint shop after the rust is removed?
Not necessarily. Although we can supply bare metal, or with a simple cold-galvanized finish, we also offer a full finish option, which includes cold galvanizing, priming, and painting, so you won’t need to take your vehicle anywhere else.
11. Can this service be applied to individual parts, or does it have to be the whole vehicle?
We only treat individual components, such as chassis, frames, axles, subframes, or bodyshells and request that these are supplied to us already stripped from the vehicle. Where you need a full vehicle restored we can point you in the right direction.
12. Is this service suitable for classic cars?
Absolutely! Rewind is ideal for classic car restorations, where rust lurks in the body structure, chassis or frame and often irreplaceable components. We can fully remove rust from critical and rare components, helping preserve the integrity, originality and value of your classic vehicle.
13. How much does this service cost?
Costs vary depending on the size of the components and the extent of rust removal required. We charge on a time and materials basis and can provide an estimate after inspecting the items you wish to be treated. Do keep in mind that removing rust now is much cheaper than replacing entire parts later, especially when these parts are no longer produced!
14. Will this service increase the resale value of my car?
Yes, removing rust and protecting your vehicle with long-term treatments applied to clean bare metal can significantly boost its resale value. Cars with underlying rust issues often see their value plummet, as we have seen many times when hidden rust has burst out from under a clean respray!
15. Is this service available for off-road and 4×4 vehicles?
Yes! Rewind was initially born from trying to create an ever-lasting Land Rover from a rusted heap of components. The service was designed specifically for off-road vehicles, with choices of finishes and protective coats specified to face the harshest of conditions. We can restore and repair heavily rusted frames, bulkheads, axles, and other components to keep your 4×4 or truck performing at its best.
