The Best Rust is the Rust That Never Starts
We all know that rust is the ultimate enemy of cars, and once it takes hold, the damage can be relentless.
But here’s the good news: you can stop rust in its tracks before it ever begins.
Our Prevent Rust service is designed for vehicles with no rust (yet) or where the very lightest of rust spots have begun.
Rust Stop’s prevention treatments coat and seal your car’s undercarriage and vulnerable areas using eco-friendly, lanolin-based products.
These penetrate deep into seams, crevices, and cavities, keeping moisture and corrosive elements out for good.
Prevention isn’t just a smart choice — it’s a vital investment in your car’s future.
Why Choose Rust Stop’s Prevent Rust Service?
1. Peace of Mind for Years to Come
Once your vehicle is in our protection program, you can drive through rain, salt, and snow without worrying about rust forming underneath. We deep-seal your car’s most at-risk areas against the elements so you don’t have to think about it.
2. Eco-Friendly Protection
Our preferred lanolin-based treatments are not only highly effective, but they’re also kind to the planet. No harsh chemicals—just natural, sustainable protection for your vehicle.
3. Perfect for New or Restored Cars
Whether you’ve just driven off the dealer’s lot or spent years restoring a classic, protecting your car now ensures it’s vulnerable underside and cavities stay in pristine condition.
3. Save (or Make) Money Long-Term
Rust repairs are costly and time-consuming. By preventing rust before it starts, you’re saving yourself from expensive future repairs and maintaining or even enhancing your car’s resale value.
How It Works
Our process is simple but highly effective. We apply our lanolin-based coating to every inch of your car’s underbody and inside vulnerable areas like doors and wheel wells, forming a barrier against moisture and salt.
Step 1: We deep clean and dry the undercarriage to remove any dirt or contaminants.
Step 2: Our eco-friendly treatment is applied, penetrating every nook and cranny.
Step 3: You drive away knowing your vehicle is protected for the long haul.
How Long Does It Last?
Our Prevent Rust treatment program offers all vehicles long-lasting protection.
With our lanolin-based solution we recommend a second light application after 6 months and annually thereafter, to maintain and enhance protection levels.
For our petroleum-wax based product we advise a free annual inspection with low-cost spot treatment for high abrasive surfaces, or when the vehicle sees heavy use.
The best choice of our protective solution can be made based on your individual circumstances and vehicle use case – and we can create a custom treatment for best value and longevity.
After all a hard-working commercial 4×4 will see a hugely different rust-risk to a pampered classic!

Prevent Rust Service – Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I prevent rust if my car is brand new?
Preventing rust from the start ensures your car stays in top condition for the long term. Even new cars are vulnerable to rust, especially in areas with rain, snow, and road salt. It’s much easier (and cheaper) to prevent rust than to fix it later.
2. My car is just a few years old with no visible rust. Do I really need this service?
Yes! Rust can form in hidden areas, such as inside doors, under the car, or in small crevices. Just because you don’t see rust now doesn’t mean it’s not starting to form. Our service stops rust before it becomes a problem.
3. How long does the treatment last?
This will depend on a range of factors. With our Prevent Rust lanolin-based treatment we recommend a second light coating after the first six months, followed by refreshed coatings annually for optimal protection. With our petroleum-wax treatment we recommend annual check-ups with spot treatment, particularly for vehicles used in harsh or abrasive conditions – and our industrial grade wax-treatment designed for the harshest of conditions can last in excess of 5 years between top-ups.
4. What’s the difference between your service and a dealership’s undercoating?
Unlike dealership undercoatings, which are typically surface-level coatings which can crack and actually worsen the risk of invisible rust, we use highly effective treatments that penetrate deep into the metal, seal off vulnerable areas and can self-heal when damaged. Our lanolin-based product is also eco-friendly, unlike many chemical-based coatings.
5. Is your treatment eco-friendly?
Absolutely. We prefer to use lanolin-based coatings, which are natural, biodegradable, and safe for the environment. No harsh chemicals — just powerful rust protection for your vehicle.
6. Will this treatment damage the paint or finish of my car?
No, the treatments are designed specifically to protect metal surfaces without affecting your car’s paint or finish. Treatments are applied only to the undercarriage and inside cavities where rust typically starts. We can mask bodywork to avoid overspray – only because the treatment’s waxy oily surface can be unsightly against polished paint and can be a struggle to remove without chemicals or elbow grease.
7. How long does the process take?
Typically, the treatment itself can be completed in a few hours, depending on the size, type and cleanliness of vehicle – however for a first treatment on a dirty underside, the comprehensive cleaning and full drying required for a car’s undercarriage or a 4×4’s chassis will take substantially longer. Even with our specialist industrial dryers, the full process can take at least 24hrs for a first treatment. Showroom-fresh vehicles or second and subsequent treatments can be completed in half a day.
8. Can I wash my car after the treatment?
Yes, you can wash your car as usual but we advise holding off for a week after application to allow the treatment to fully cure. Our Prevent Rust treatment won’t be affected by regular car washing and once cured can withstand a jet wash clean at up to 3000psi – however we do recommend avoiding steam cleaning or aggressive power-washing of your undercarriage to maintain full protection. Due to the water-repelling nature of our treatments, most dirt and salts will be removed naturally when driving the vehicle in wet weather.
9. Will this treatment affect my vehicle warranty?
No, our treatment should be fully compatible with your vehicle’s manufacturer warranty. In fact, some manufacturers recommend rust prevention services as part of long-term vehicle care. There are of course outliers who won’t allow anybody else to touch their cars during the warranty period.
Bear in mind that we do regularly see heavy surface rust covering car undercarriages, subframes, steering and suspension components on cars still within warranty, so it can be a balance between enhancing the longevity of your car and keeping a dealer happy – the same dealer who will want to sell you another new car in 3-5 years time.
10. How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the size and type of vehicle, but our Prevent Rust service is an affordable investment compared to the high cost of rust repairs down the road. Second and subsequent treatments are on average half the price of initial treatments and after 3 treatments we offer a fourth at no charge. Contact us for a personalized quote.
11. Can this service be applied to classic cars?
Yes! In fact, Prevent Rust was originally intended for, and is perfect for restored classic cars. Once the hard work of restoration is done, protecting your treasured vehicle from rust is essential to keep it in pristine condition.
12. Does the treatment work on all types of vehicles?
Yes, our Prevent Rust service works on all types of vehicles — whether you have a car, truck, 4×4, or even a commercial vehicle. If it’s metal, we can protect it.
13. I live near the coast. Will this still work for me?
Yes! Our treatment should be considered as essential in coastal areas where salt from the moist sea air and winter roads combine to accelerate rust at an alarming rate. We recommend free annual inspections for high-salt environments to ensure ongoing protection.
14. Can I wait until I see rust to take action?
Waiting for rust to appear means you may have to pay for rust repairs down the line. Preventing rust now is much cheaper and keeps your vehicle in better condition. Don’t wait — rust can form and spread in hidden areas long before it’s visible. If your car IS already rusty, our Pause Rust service program will stop, or in the worst cases massively slow down the spread of rust.
15. What happens if I don’t prevent rust?
If rust isn’t prevented, it WILL eat away at your car’s structure, leading to costly repairs or even making the vehicle unsafe to drive. Prevent Rust is a simple, cost-effective way to avoid those problems from the outset, because prevention is always better than a cure.
